What is Tabs+?

A short overview of what the app does.

Written by Steve Jones

Tabs+ is a Shopify app that lets you add organised, tabbed content to your product pages without editing your theme code. Instead of one long product description, you can split content into clean, navigable tabs - like Description, Shipping, Size guide and Reviews - that show up automatically on every product page.

What you can do with Tabs+

  • Add tabs to any product. Each tab has a label, an optional icon, and rich-text content (headings, lists, images, links, tables, video).

  • Show different content for different variants. Give each variant its own custom title, its own description, and even its own variant-specific tabs.

  • Build shared tabs once and reuse them. A shared tab (like “Shipping & returns”) can be applied to many products at once. Update it in one place and every product updates automatically.

  • Choose how tabs look. Pick horizontal tabs or a vertical accordion, set border style, font size, animation, icons, and more - all from the theme editor.

  • Pull in dynamic data. Use placeholders to insert metafields and the variant SKU into tab content.

How it fits with Shopify

Tabs+ stores your content in your Shopify product and shop metafields. The app's theme app extension reads those metafields on the storefront and renders the tabs.

This means:

  • Your content lives with your products in Shopify - not on a third-party server.

  • Tabs are rendered as part of your product page, so they look like a native part of the theme.

  • If you ever uninstall the app, your product descriptions are unaffected.

What does the storefront look like?

You have two layout options:

  • Horizontal tabs - a tab bar at the top, with content panels below. Best for desktop-first layouts and small numbers of tabs.

  • Vertical tabs (accordion) - collapsible sections stacked one above the other, each with a clickable header that opens the content. Best for mobile and longer lists.

You can switch between them at any time from the theme editor, and you can override the orientation per product using a Shopify product tag.
