Adding a shared tab to many products at once

Apply a tab to a specific set of products

Written by Steve Jones

If you've built a shared tab and you want to apply it to a specific set of products (rather than all products on your store), you can do that in bulk straight from the Products list.

Steps

  1. Make sure the shared tab exists. If not, create it first - see Creating and managing shared tabs.

  2. From the Tabs+ home (Products), use the search box and filters to narrow the list to the products you want to update. For example:

    • Filter by Vendor or Product type to target a category.

    • Filter by Tag to target tagged products.

    • Filter by Missing shared tab to find products that don't yet have the shared tab applied.

  3. Tick the checkboxes next to the products you want to update. To select every visible product on the current page, use the header checkbox.

  4. A bulk-actions bar appears at the top of the list. Click Add shared tab.

  5. In the popup:

    • Choose which shared tab to add from the dropdown.

    • Choose position - either as the first tab or the last tab on each selected product.

  6. Click Update.

A progress bar appears as Tabs+ works through the selected products. The change is published immediately - there's no need to publish each product individually.

What if a product already has the shared tab?

If a selected product already includes the shared tab, Tabs+ leaves it alone - it won't be added a second time. The position you chose only applies to products where the tab is being added for the first time.

Tips

  • Use the Tab status → Without tabs filter to find products that have no Tabs+ content at all, then bulk-add a starter shared tab to all of them.

  • Use Filter by → Missing shared tab to find products that don't yet include a particular tab. This pairs well with the bulk-apply action.

  • If you want a shared tab to appear on every product without manual selection, edit the shared tab itself and set Applies to → All products instead.

Please note:

The bulk action publishes changes immediately. There's no draft step. If you want to test how a shared tab will look first, apply it to a single product, preview it in the theme editor, and then bulk-apply it once you're happy.

Plan limits

You can only customise content on as many products as your plan allows. On the Free plan, that's 5 products. The bulk action will refuse to run if it would push you past your limit. See Plans & pricing for further information.
